Sara Jean Voelker
Sara Jean Voelker, 83, of Butler died Saturday afternoon at the VNA Inpatient Hospice, Butler.
Born Nov. 28, 1928, in Butler, she was a daughter of the late Roy Aiken Campbell and Sarah G. (Langland) Campbell.
Sara worked as a long distance operator for the Bell Telephone Co. in Butler until the office closed. She then transferred to Pittsburgh, working more than 20 years. She also worked as an operator for Butler Memorial Hospital.
Sara was a lifelong member of St. Paul Roman Catholic Church in Butler and was a member of the Telephone Pioneer Club and the “Golden Girls” card club.
Sara is survived by her children, Barbara Radzyminski, Gary Voelker, Nancy (Roger) Rettig, Deborah (George) Schroth, Connie (Gary) Malinski, David Voelker and Norman Voelker Jr., all of Butler.
She also is survived by nine grandchildren, Michelle Voelker, Amy Arnold, Michael Voelker, Mark Hitchcock, Sharon Voelker, Ashlee Hoehn, Shayne Hoehn, Brittany Voelker and Joseph Voelker; and five great-grandchildren, Jailynn Voelker, Jesalynn Voelker, Brayden Voelker, Jordan Voelker and Emily Arnold.
In addition, her brother, Robert Campbell of Butler; her sister, Mary Lou Chuba of Palm Harbor, Fla.; and a number of nieces and nephews survive her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman F. Voelker Sr., who she married April 3, 1948, and who died Jan. 24, 2006; four brothers; two sisters; and one grandson.
VOELKER — Friends of Sara Jean Voelker, who died Saturday, June 9, 2012, will be received at the GEIBEL FUNERAL HOME, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler, from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, 128 N. McKean St., Butler. Entombment will follow in the Mausoleum at Calvary Cemetery, Butler. St. Paul's Catholic Women will recite the rosary at 9:40 a.m. Wednesday at the church.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
