Harrisville man killed in Venango County crash
A Harrisville man was killed in a single-vehicle crash early Sunday in Irwin Township, Venango County.
A state police news release said Scott E. Shultz Jr., 31, was killed in the crash, which happened at 12:51 a.m. on Route 208 near its intersection with Rumbaugh Lane.
Police said Schultz was driving west at “a high rate of speed” and drove off the road into a ditch. Police said the vehicle continued moving forward in the ditch, hitting two mailboxes, a culvert for a driveway and finally a utility pole.
“Impact with the utility pole caused (the vehicle) to roll over onto its roof coming to a point of final rest in the middle of Route 208,” police said.
Venango County Coroner Kristina Rugh pronounced Shultz dead at the scene.
Clintonville Volunteer Fire Department assisted at the scene.
According to Shultz’s obituary, He was a Franklin High School graduate and was working as a mechanic for Pepsi Co. in Franklin.
The obituary said the Larry McKinley Funeral Home in Clintonville is assisting the family with funeral arrangements, which will be conducted privately.
