Thomas Brown Sr.

Thomas Merle Brown Sr., 59, of Mt. Pleasant, Tenn., died Nov. 8 at his home.

Born in Karns City, he was the son of Catherine Corbett Brown and the late Merle J. Brown.

He was an alumnus of Karns City High School and worked on a farm when he was a teen in New Bethlehem, Clarion County, and then for C.A. Garner in Hillards. From there he worked at Keffalas Paint in Butler, George Toth Trucking in Hillards, Hankey Construction in Eau Claire, Hunters Truck Sales and was a welder at T.I. Brook in Cherry Valley.

He then moved to Virginia and was a heavy-duty truck mechanic at Central Motors in Springfield, Va., Southland Distributors in Fredericksburg, Ryder Truck Rentals, and Heflens Garage.

He was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy in Virginia, where he was on the board of directors, a Sunday school superintendent, an usher and in maintenance. He was a current member of the Church of God of Prophecy in Columbia, Tenn.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Lynda Garner Brown; a son, Thomas M. (Tina) Brown Jr. of Mt. Pleasant, Tenn.; six grandchildren, Caitlin, Hunter, Trevor, Brandi, Toby and Trent Brown, all of Mt. Pleasant; two sisters, Kathy Dorr of Chicora and Barbara Smith of Karns City; and seven brothers, William Brown of Phoenix, Ariz., Robert Brown of Corsica, Pa., Kenneth Brown of Chicora, David Brown of West Lawn, Pa., and Frank, Dennis and Steve Brown, all of Culpepper, Va.

He was preceded in death by a son, Albert Garner Brown.

<B>BROWN</B> — Funeral services for Thomas Merle Brown Sr., who died Thursday, Nov. 8, 2007, were Monday at the <B>Williams Funeral Home</B>, Columbia, Tenn., with Bishop G. Wayne Proffitt, Bishop Jay Croyle, the Rev. Ron Roudebush and the Rev. Gary Clements officiating. Entombment followed in the Polk Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.Condolences may be sent to the family at www.williamsfh.com.
