John Loy Dellich

John Loy Dellich, 91, of Worth Township passed away Thursday at the Community Living Center on the campus of the VA Butler Healthcare in Butler Township.

John was born in Williamsburg, Pa., in Blair County, on July 20, 1926, to John Dellich and Ruthie Safronic Dellich.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army at age 17, and served in the Italian and African campaigns in World War II.

He married Jane Marie Graham on July 1, 1950, and she preceded him in death on July 24, 2009.

He was a life member of VFW Post 519 of Grove City and American Legion Post 584 in Springfield Township.

John retired from West Penn Power where he had been a head lineman, and he had attended the Slippery Rock United Methodist Church. He enjoyed woodworking and music, and played the guitar, harmonica and concertina.

Survivors include two sons, Gerald D. “Jerry” Dellich (Ann) of Butler and Steven L. Dellich (Debra) of Slippery Rock; two sisters, Catherine Tilko of Butler and Ruth Visniesky of Chicora; three brothers, William of West Sunbury, George (Mary Ann) of Harrisville, and Dan (Kay) of Boyers; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two daughters, Cherine Kreider and Celeste Cook; a grandson, Aaron Cook; a brother, Chester Dellich; and a sister, Rose Bonetti.

DELLICH — Funeral services for John Loy Dellich, who died Thursday, Aug. 3, 2017, will be at the SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock, at 4 p.m. Saturday with the Rev. Keith McElwain, pastor of the Slippery Rock United Methodist Church, presiding. Family and friends may gather at the Smith Funeral Home from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday. Interment will be in Slippery Rock Cemetery.
