William Carroll Jr.
The Rev. William R. Carroll Jr., 83, of Slippery Rock, formerly of West Deer Township and Pittsburgh, died Sunday, Aug. 28, 2022, with his loving family by his side in DeBary, Fla., where he loved to spend his winters.
He was born July 20, 1939, in Pittsburgh, and was the son of the late William R. Carroll Sr. and Eleanor M. (Wakefield) Carroll.
The Rev. Carroll grew up in Pittsburgh, having graduated from Stony Brook Prep, Long Island, N.Y., and then went on to achieve his degree from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and Carlow University.
He served as a student local pastor with the United Methodist Western Pennsylvania Conference, then as a Methodist minister for over 20 years. He served at various churches including Harmarville United Methodist, Verona United Methodist, Bairdford United Methodist and Millerstown United Methodist Church, until he retired in 2003. He then helped serve at the Bull Creek Presbyterian Church, filling in when needed. The Rev. Carroll also was a member of the Masonic Lodge, and served as a Past Master.
He loved spending time with family and friends.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Carolyn (Cleland) Carroll; his son, William R. (Anna) Carroll III of Pembroke Pines, Fla.; his granddaughters, Fiona Carroll and Madison O’Brien; and his siblings, Timothy M. Carroll of Overbrook, and Barbara Rook of Chicago.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Ann Carroll O’Brien; and his brothers, Frederick and David Carroll.
CARROLL — The family of the Rev. William R. Carroll Jr., who died Sunday, Aug. 28, 2022, will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at SIWICKI-YANICKO FUNERAL HOME, 23 McKrell Road, Russellton, West Deer Township, where funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday with the Rev. W. James Legge, D.Min., officiating.
Burial will follow in Plum Creek Cemetery, Plum.
