Police find, arrest man charged with rape, multiple crimes
A Kittanning man wanted in connection with sexually violent acts against multiple women is in jail on a six-figure bond following his arrest late Wednesday.
In a news release Thursday, state police in Armstrong County said Zachary W. Baum, 23, was arrested at 11:40 p.m. It was not clear how the arrest took place, nor were details given regarding how police were alerted to his location.
Police said over several years, Baum committed sexually violent acts against multiple women, which resulted in two cases being filed Tuesday.
Baum was arraigned Thursday morning for both cases before District Judge Kevin McCausland, after which he was placed in Armstrong County Jail on a $200,000 bond.
Cumulatively, Baum is charged with felony counts of rape, unlawful contact with a minor, strangulation, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, disseminating depictions of sex acts, victim intimidation and aggravated indecent assault. He additionally is accused of 18 associated misdemeanors.
According to police, over the course of several years, Baum contacted multiple women through Facebook messenger, then met them for sex.
Police said the two cases involve the rape of two women, one in the middle of a street in Kittanning, and another, who was 16 at the time, in Baum’s car in a local park.
Baum is scheduled to appear for preliminary hearings Sept. 14 before District Judge James Owen.
