Louella Jane VanHorn McCullough

Louella Jane VanHorn McCullough, 95, of Ford City, Pa., passed away Sunday at VNA Inpatient Hospice in Butler with her family by her side.

She was born on July 10, 1917, in Klamath Falls, Ore., to C. Lee Cornish and Kathryn Blaney (Blose) Cornish.

Louella lived most of her life in Armstrong County and graduated from Kittanning High School in 1935. She married William A. VanHorn in 1942 and then attended the Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Louella was a teacher in the Armstrong School District for 29 years, retiring in 1979. She was a member of the Grace Presbyterian Church, the State Teachers Association and the Pennsylvania National Grange. In her free time, Louella enjoyed doing needlework, creating many beautiful heirloom-quality pieces throughout her life. Her family and friends will always remember her caring nature and she will be greatly missed.

Left to cherish her memory is her son, Dr. Dorsey Lee VanHorn and wife, Mary Ellen, of Calhoun, Ga.; daughters, Karen Claypoole and husband, Ernest, of Ford City, Marcia Elgin and husband, Jeffery, of Ford City, and Nancy Jane Putney and husband, Richard, of Washington, Pa.; grandchildren, Kathryn Claypoole, Elizabeth (VanHorn) Kearns, Michelle (VanHorn) Hite, Ryan Putney, Joel Putney, Kara Putney, Amanda (Elgin) Mudd and Emily (Elgin) Shipley; great-grandchildren, William Lee Hite, Tessa Kearns, Emira, Logan and Mason Shipley, Cayden and Quintyn Mudd and Ava Jane Putney; brother, Clarence L. “Hap” Cornish Jr. and wife, Dorothy, of Kittanning; sister, Glesson Fishel of Vandergrift; and many nieces and nephews.

Louella was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, William A. VanHorn; second husband, Thomas F. McCullough; brother, Van Allen Cornish; and sister, Mayselle Schall.

McCullough — Friends of Louella Jane VanHorn McCullough, who passed away Sunday, June 9, 2013, will be received from 10 a.m. until the time of funeral services at noon Wednesday at the Bauer Funeral Home, 515 N. McKean St., Kittanning, with the Rev. Dana Wilmot and the Rev. Alfred Kimmel co-officiating.Contributions may be made in Louella's honor to Grace Presbyterian Church, 155 N.
