Butler native fatally stabbed in North Carolina

Police are continuing to investigate the homicide of a Butler native, who had been stabbed Aug. 29 in Atlantic Beach, N.C., in a “random and senseless act of violence.”

“We have received numerous tips and are in the process of following up on all of them,” police said in a statement via the Atlantic Beach Facebook page.

Local media outlets said the killing of Randall Miller, 65, of Apex, N.C., happened around 5:45 a.m. at 300 W. Atlantic Boulevard.

The Atlantic Beach Police Department is working with the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation to investigate.

“At this stage of the investigation, we believe it was related to a burglary that the victim happened upon,” the statement said. “It appears to be a random and senseless act of violence. We do not believe the victim or anyone else in Atlantic Beach was targeted.”

According to the victim’s brother Rick Miller, of Butler, Randall Miller had been preparing a boat to fish the ocean for a trip when the attack happened.
