Fatal crash confirmed at Branchton Road intersection
One person died and another was transported by medical helicopter following a vehicle crash involving a motorcycle and car at around 4 p.m. Friday near the intersection of Branchton Road and Route 8.
Deputy coroner John Hanovick confirmed at 7:45 p.m. Friday evening that a deputy from the Butler County Coroner’s office was responding to the crash.
When the crash was reported, dispatch was advised that there were two patients, “both not moving, serious injuries.”
Slippery Rock VFC closed off Route 8 at Kiester Road Friday, sending travelers around the area of the crash area.
A news release from the Department of Transportation said Route 8 would be closed between the intersections of Franklin Road, Davis Lane/Kiester Road and Branchton Road in Slippery Rock Township. The news release said there was no estimated time the road would reopen or detour available.
Slippery Rock Volunteer Fire Company and EMS, Harrisville Volunteer Fire Company and state police responded to the scene.
The four-way intersection at Route 8 and Branchton has become notorious for vehicle crashes. Last Friday, Sept. 2, a motorcyclist was transported to Grove City Medical Center following a crash with a vehicle.
In April, the site saw three vehicle crashes — one of them fatal.
A number of other crashes have occurred at the intersection for at least the past two decades. On July 7, 2003, all five members of a North Carolina family died in a fiery crash between a Dodge Neon and a tractor-trailer at the Route 8 intersection with Branchton Road.
