Walk to End Alzheimer’s embarks Sunday in Cranberry
The Alzheimer’s Association is planning its Walk to End Alzheimer’s for Sunday, Sept. 18, at Cranberry Township’s North Boundary Park.
The event begins at 9 a.m. with an opening ceremony. Registration opens at 8 a.m.
The walk also will include a Promise Garden ceremony, which features flowers of different colors that represent people’s personal reasons for fighting the disease.
“The Alzheimer’s Association draws hundreds of walkers and teams to the event each fall and it is a pivotal event to spread community awareness and concern for Alzheimer’s disease,” said Sara Giammarise, senior development director for the Greater Pennsylvania Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association.
“We are looking forward to gathering with area families on Walk day who have been impacted by the disease, as we work together to inspire hope in the fight for a cure and move closer to our vision of a world without Alzheimer’s and all other dementia.”
Organizers are monitoring the latest health and safety recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, although they plan on moving forward with the event in person.
More than 6 million Americans live with Alzheimer’s Disease, with 11 million family and friends providing care to them or to those afflicted by other dementias. In Pennsylvania, 280,000 people live with the disease and 500,000 people serve as caregivers.
