Former state Rep. dies after second battle with cancer

Former state Rep. Jeff Pyle died Wednesday, Sept. 14, after a battle with recurring cancer. He formerly represented the 60th House district, which includes two townships in Butler County.

Former state Rep. Jeff Pyle, whose 60th District included Winfield and Buffalo townships in Butler County and parts of Armstrong and Indiana counties, died Wednesday, Sept. 14, at age 58.

Gov. Tom Wolf on Thursday ordered flags to half-staff at all government and public buildings and grounds, effective immediately.

Pyle, a Republican, was diagnosed with kidney cancer soon after assuming his seat in the House of Representatives in 2005.

He continued to serve in his elected position as he underwent cancer treatment and made a full recovery.

The cancer returned to his chest in 2018, and he suffered a stroke in 2020 that forced him to resign from the House.

Many heartfelt tributes were recorded on Pyle’s Facebook page Thursday, Sept. 15, from colleagues, former students, friends and family members.
