Florence Purdum

Purdum

Florence “Flossie” Risch Purdum , 87, passed away peacefully at her home in Woodland Hills, Calif., on Monday, Sept. 12, 2022.

She was born on Nov. 24, 1934, at home in Sarver, and was the daughter of the late Florence Imelda Macurdy and Alvin James Risch.

Known far and wide as “Flossie,” she graduated from Freeport High School in 1952. She went on to graduate from Butler County Memorial Nursing School in 1954 and started a career in nursing that would last a lifetime ... even after retirement.

She married John Purdum in 1958.

She is survived by her daughters, Carmel (Daniel) Gardner and Joanne Blacklidge; and her grandchildren, Daniel Gardner, Ali Gardner, Blake Blacklidge and Sean Blacklidge.

She is survived by her loving brothers, Lee (Bonnie) Risch and Loyd (Pat) Risch; and her sister-in-law, Lois (Dean) Risch.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Purdum; and her son, Ralph Purdum.

She was also preceded in death by her siblings, Joan (Robert) Mann, Ralph (Betty) Risch, Dean Risch, June Maizland and Juanita (Alvin) Cypher.

She traveled the world, even riding a camel in Egypt. She was a longtime member of the Butler County Memorial Hospital Nursing Alumnae Association and traveled home often for reunions. Flossie was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Red Hat Society, and many other civic and church organizations.
