Evelyn Cavanaugh

Evelyn Frances Lewis Cavanaugh, 89, of Charlotte, N.C., formerly of Butler, died Wednesday at Sunrise on Providence in Charlotte, N.C.

Born Aug. 30, 1920, in Danville, Va., she was the daughter of the late Thomas Lawton and Annie Haygood Lewis.

Mrs. Cavanaugh was very active in the 1950s and 1960s serving as president of the Jaycettes of Endicott, N.Y., and also the president of the Endicott PTA.

She also was the co-owner of Jack Haines Real Estate, which she and her first husband cofounded.

Evelyn was a member of St. Fidelis Catholic Church in Butler.

In addition to her parents and first husband, Mrs. Cavanaugh was preceded in death by her second husband, John Cavanaugh Sr. and one sister and three brothers.

Evelyn was a very grateful person. Her favorite two words were "thank you."

Surviving are her sons, John C. Haines and his wife, Shelby, of Phoenix, Ariz., Thomas L. Haines and his wife, Nancy, of Charlotte, N.C., and Steven A. Haines and his wife, Joyce, of Maine, N.Y.; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; four stepsons, John P. Cavanaugh and his wife, Barbara, of Grove City, David Cavanaugh of Butler, Thomas Cavanaugh and his wife, Linda, of Crystal Lake, Ill., and William Cavanaugh and his wife, Debbie, of Arvada, Colo.; and four stepdaughters, Jane Croll and her husband, Don, of Butler, Catherine Cavanaugh and her husband, David Roberts, of Mechanicsburg, Maureen Cavanaugh Brown and her husband, David, of Connoquenessing, and Eileen Dix and her husband, Jeff, of Galion, Ohio.

<B>CAVANAUGH</B> — A service to celebrate the life of Evelyn Frances Lewis Cavanaugh, who died Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2009, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Chapel of St. Gabriel's Catholic Church in Charlotte, N.C.
