CRANBERRY TWP — Pet owners and dogs alike gathered Monday to enjoy the newly opened Rotary Dog Park in Cranberry Township following the grand “Unleashing” event Saturday, Sept. 24.

Township manager Dan Santoro said the opening day event was well attended.

“There were a great number of folks who had been involved, but also pet owners from across the township and region,” Santoro said. “They love the new facility, and it went very, very well.”

The park, just up the hill from the original Rotary Dog Park, features new fencing, a shaded pavilion, a gravel path and a whole portion of the park under cover of trees.

Santoro said around 25 dogs were present in the large dog side of the park Saturday.

“There was plenty of room for more,” he added. “They are satisfied and excited to be using it.”

The new dog park is “the next step” in the township’s efforts to be pet-friendly, Santoro said. Over the last several years, further portions of the township’s parks have been opened up to pet owners, including parts of the Community Park and North Boundary Park.

“There’s been ongoing efforts in the township for the last several years, listening to our residents and pet owners to make it a pet-friendly community,” he said. “It's just the next step in ongoing efforts to make places pet friendly and balance the needs of pet owners as well as those who want areas that are pet-free, because there are a fair amount who want areas that are pet-free also.”
