Mosaic to be unveiled Thursday in Zelienople
A community-inspired glass mosaic will be unveiled at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 29, at Spring Street Studios, 100 E. Spring St., Zelienople.
Pittsburgh artist Daviea Davis created the artwork, Zelienople & Butler County Community Mosaic, which was created partially funded by a grant from the Butler County Tourism & Convention Bureau.
The piece, placed on the outside of the business, features images of 26 different community treasures from Zelienople and neighboring Butler County communities.
“We’re proud to be a part of the Zelienople and Butler County communities,” said Renee Ayers, who owns and operates Spring Street Studios, along with Elizabeth Fortunato. “That pride in the people that live and work here, and our shared history, is intended to be reflected in this piece.
“We’re thrilled to have Daviea bring her creativeness and passion and be a part of this community-based project.”
Davis is a Pittsburgh artist who has had works displayed at the Phipps Conservatory, Pittsburgh Glass Center and Botanical Gardens, and two permanent installations at Pittsburgh International Airport.
“I work with my whole heart, everyday, on my salvaged glass mosaic windows,” Davis said. “I listen to stories, and distill them into a design, full of color and meaning. I work with groups to create a lasting tribute to a time or place.”
The grant was part of 28 that Butler County travel and tourism businesses and organizations received from the Butler County Tourism & Convention Bureau in May. A total of $100,000 in grant dollars was provided as part of the tourism’s annual member grant program.
