1 dead following Oneida Valley crash Tuesday
One person died from injuries from a two-vehicle, head-on collision Tuesday night on Oneida Valley Road.
William Young III, Butler County coroner, said one of the drivers, Joshua Rock, was pronounced dead at Butler Memorial Hospital following the crash.
Two people were transported by helicopters to Pittsburgh hospitals for injuries, according to Gary Wulff, chief of Oneida Valley Volunteer Fire Department.
Dispatchers reported a two-vehicle crash, with one vehicle on fire, around 8:23 p.m.
Wulff said a Ford SUV was traveling southbound, and a Nissan SUV was traveling northbound when the vehicles collided.
The driver of the Nissan SUV suffered fatal injuries. The driver of the Ford SUV and a passenger in the Nissan SUV were transported.
Witnesses driving by the scene extracted the driver from the burning Ford SUV by using a crowbar to break the windshield, Wulff said.
“It was good Samaritans, good people, that pulled them out of the burning vehicle, not firefighters,” he said. “That was before we were on scene.”
When Oneida Valley firefighters arrived, they extracted the passenger of the Nissan, but had to pull the vehicle away from the burning Ford SUV to extract the driver.
State police reconstructed the scene and crews cleared the area around 1 a.m. Wednesday. The investigation is ongoing.
Lick Hill Community and Unionville Volunteer Fire departments also responded to the scene.
