Laura Ethel Snyder

Laura Ethel Dick Snyder, 91, of Brady Township died at 7:20 p.m. Wednesday at Orchard Manor in Grove City following an extended illness.

She was born Sept. 19, 1916, in Franklin Township, a daughter of Clarence William Dick and Mattie Elizabeth Bell Dick.

Mrs. Snyder was a homemaker. She began a career as a practical nurse for about five years doing private duty in residences, working up until the time she was married.

She was a member of the West Liberty United Presbyterian Church. She was recognized for 50 years of teaching Sunday school. She was active with the women's group of the church and remained active for years, playing piano along with the organist at the church worship services. Even though she was legally blind for the past three years, she continued to play until her recent illness.

Inspired by her mother, who was a 4-H leader, Ethel became an active leader in 4-H for more than 44 years. During that time, she started the Stone House 4-H Club, which was later called Moraine 4-H.

She is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth "Betty" Lucille Alexander of Morgantown, W.Va., and Bonita "Bonnie" Jean Stockslager and her husband, Greg, of Remington, Va.; two sons, David Ross Snyder and his wife, Thelma, of Niles, Ohio, and Timothy "Tim" Samuel Snyder and his wife, Linda, of Slippery Rock.

Also surviving are eight grandchildren, Suzanne Brown and Sarah Brown Kargar, Mark and Matthew Snyder, Troy, Molly and Ryan Stauffer, and Erin Snyder; and four great- grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Hershal Ross Snyder, on Jan. 16, 2006. They were married June 10, 1940.
