CLINTON TWP, Venango County — The state police fire marshal’s office is investigating a blaze about midnight Monday that destroyed a barn several miles north of the Butler County line. No one was injured.

The barn on Donaldson Road, north of Route 208, was being used for storage.

The only property in the barn was a car, according to a Venango County 911 dispatcher.

Trooper Ken Hamilton, a deputy fire marshal at the Meadville station, said he expected to sift through the rubble today as he begins his investigation. He had no information this morning about the fire.

A neighbor made the first 911 call at 11:59 p.m. Monday. The caller initially reported seeing “large flames” from an unknown fire in the distance.

Fire crews, including three departments in Butler County, arrived and discovered the blaze had leveled the 40-foot-by-50-foot barn.

“It was pretty much on the ground,” said Chief Steve Bickel of the Harrisville Volunteer Fire Department.

About 50 firefighters battled the blaze, using water from a pond about a quarter mile away.

Companies called were Harrisville, Marion Township and Eau Claire in Butler County; and Emlenton, Clintonville, Polk, Kennerdell, Sandy Creek and Richland in Venango County.

Firefighters were on scene until about 3:30 a.m.
