Brief power outage Thursday
A bout of wind and rain Thursday morning plunged more than 1,500 West Penn Power customers into darkness for a few hours.
The Meridian area of Butler Township saw the highest number of outages.
The first day of the Butler Bookfest at the Farm Show Grounds on Route 68 saw book buyers perusing selections by the light of their phones, according to Michelle Lesniak, South Butler Community Library director.
Todd Meyers, West Penn Power spokesman, said a tree fell onto wires at about 8:40 a.m. near Greenwood Drive.
The tree broke a cross hair at the top of a utility pole.
Crews repaired the damage and had most of the lights back on by about 10:30.
