City approves sale of BASA
The sale of the Butler Area Sewer Authority continues to move forward.
Butler City Council members on Thursday night, Oct. 13, voted unanimously to approve the sale of the 60-year-old-authority to Pennsylvania American Water Co. at a price of $231.5 million.
The city and Butler Township are the sole owners of the sewer system and will split the profits if the sale is finalized.
The authority’s five-man board of directors voted on Tuesday to approve the sale.
The Butler Township commissioners are expected to approve the sale at their meeting on Monday.
If the commissioners approve the sale, the plan will next move to the Pennsylvania Utilities Commission for approval.
