A pickup truck was totaled after crashing into the front façade of Larry Teal’s Alignment Shop on Evans City Road on Wednesday morning.

The driver of the vehicle was unharmed after passersby extracted him from the vehicle, Evans City Area Volunteer Fire Department Chief Matt Otto said. The crash happened just before 7 a.m.

“We had one vehicle traveling westbound and it crossed the center line,” Otto said. “It went through the center on his garage door, and ended up coming to a rest at the back of the building. There were some passersby who saw a vehicle accident, and they got out of their vehicles and were able to extricate the person. He was evaluated by EMS, but there were no major injuries on the scene.”

The driver hit an oil tank inside of the repair shop, and the Butler County Hazmat Team was called to ensure that the spill did not leave the area, Otto said.

The team put up booms to absorb the oil and advised the owner of the company to call a clean-up contractor.

“They also called for the Butler County structural collapse team, just to ensure that (it) was safe whenever they removed the vehicle, so that the building wouldn’t collapse,” Otto said.

Otto said damage to the building was “extensive,” and that a contractor was called to seal up the building temporarily until insurance personnel could take a look at the damage.

Evans City Area Volunteer Fire Department, Harmony Fire District, Harmony EMS, Adams Area Fire District, Evans City/Seven Fields Regional Police Department, and state police responded to the incident.
