Heyward M. McAnallen

Retired Lt. Col. Heyward M. McAnallen, of Athens, Ga., passed away Dec. 1.

He was born in Butler, March 21, 1921, to the late Merle F. and Hazel (Wimer) McAnallen.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Marian E. McAnallen, and two brothers, Lawrence E. McAnallen and H. William McAnallen.

Joining the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1940, he was stationed at Hickam Field, Hawaii, on Dec. 7, 1941. He later served in North Africa and England. Following World War II, he was stationed in Japan, Germany and various bases in the United States. He retired in 1970 after 30 years of service.

He is survived by his son, Douglas H. McAnallen of State College; his daughter, Deborah K. McAnallen of Athens, Ga; his brother, F. Victor (Marian) McAnallen of Hendersonville, N.C.; and his sister, Mary Lou (L. Leroy) Lewis of Cabot.

<B>McANALLEN</B> — Funeral services for retired Lt. Col. Heyward M. McAnallen, who died Thursday, Dec. 1, 2011, will be Friday, Dec. 9 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of the <B>Lord and Stephens Funeral home, East,</B> Athens, Ga. The Revs. Doug Ivey and F. Victor McAnallen will officiate. The family will receive friends following the service. Internment will be in Athens Memory Gardens.In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the American Cancer Society.
