Fire destroys dry cleaner

MARS —The state police fire marshal's office will investigate a Sunday night blaze that destroyed a dry cleaner.

No one was injured but Basilon's Quality Cleaner & Formal Wear, a longtime business on Irvine Street, was lost.

A passing motorist noticed the fire and called 911 just after 8:40 p.m.

A preliminary cause was not immediately known, said Chief Matt Nickl of the Adams Area Fire District this morning. Investigators did not know where the fire started in the one-story building either, he said.

A damage estimate also was unavailable this morning.

Firefighters used water and foam before bringing the blaze under control about 10:20 p.m.

Nickl said there was "no concern" about any chemicals contained inside the business. He said neither the county's hazardous materials team nor the state Department of Environment Protection was notified.

Assisting the Adams Area Fire District were firefighters from Cranberry and Middlesex townships, Evans City and Callery, as well as Marshall Township in Allegheny County.
