As the end of the year approaches, it’s only natural to reflect on accomplishments and look forward to the coming year and beyond.

Tragic losses will never be forgotten, and the past two years of the COVID pandemic have presented everyone with some of the most difficult times we’ll ever experience. However, those challenges faced and the lessons learned may be beneficial in the years to come.

Tourism and travel industry trends shifted dramatically during the pandemic, but Butler County’s landscape and its location left it well-positioned to take advantage of the rapidly growing outdoor recreation sector.

The Bantam Jeep Heritage Festival, Big Butler Fair and the Butler Farm Show continued to build on already strong reputations and history of being outstanding family-oriented events that highlight Butler County’s unique history.

Moraine State Park, Jennings Environmental Education Center, North Country Trail and many other parks county-wide provide outstanding outdoor recreational spots that rank among the best in the state. Those spaces aren’t just for hikers, bikers, runners and kayakers, but for environmentalists and conservationists that want to teach others about Butler County’s abundant green spaces, its wildlife, and how to maintain and continue to grow it to be enjoyed by generations to come.

Not surprisingly, Butler County’s campgrounds have realized growth as many tourists have opted for the outdoor life of trailers, tents and campfires. Families are spending more time together, which, of course, is better for everyone. It makes us better people and it improves the quality of life for the entire community.

The Butler County Tourism & Convention Bureau is excitedly looking toward the many events on the horizon. For example, in 2024, Butler County will host the Can-Am Police and Fire Games in which approximately 3,000 first responders from Canada and the U.S. will compete in Olympic-style events throughout the county.

Our hotels, restaurants and supporting businesses will be ready to greet the visitors for all events being hosted from Cranberry to Slippery Rock, and from Zelienople to Butler to Saxonburg, and everywhere in between.

The future of tourism in Butler County is bright – outside and in.
