Thomas V. Stroup

Thomas V. Stroup, 76, of Butler died at 7:45 a.m. Monday at Meadow Lake Manor of Sugar Creek personal care home, near Worthington, after an illness.

Born in Kaylor, Sept. 21, 1929, he was the son of Earl and Twyla Hepler Stroup.

He was a real estate appraiser for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation for 25 years and was responsible for buying property from Allegheny County to Erie to build 4-lane highways.

Mr. Stroup belonged to the Toastmasters Club of Butler, the Men's Bowling League of Chicora; and during the 1960s, he served with the Civil Defense. He sang in a Butler area Presbyterian church choir in the 1930s.

He was an Army veteran.

Surviving are two sons, Greg and Darrin Stroup, both of Butler; a daughter, Jakie Campbell of Des Moines, Iowa, and three grandchildren. He also is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Ben (Alice) Morrow of Fenelton, Marilyn Perdum of Butler and Thelma Fennell of Chicora.

His wife, Nora W. Hogg Stroup, whom he married in 1952, died in October 1983. He also was preceded in death by a brother, Dale L. Stroup, who died Sunday.

<B>Stroup</B> — Friends of Thomas V. Stroup, who died Monday, Aug. 7, 2006, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the <B>STEIGHNER FUNERAL HOME</B>, 111 E. Slippery Rock. St., Chicora. The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. Sherry Cook, pastor of the Fenelton United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be at the Worthington Presbyterian Cemetery.
