Thomas Benner Harris
Thomas Benner Harris, 66, of Butler died Tuesday at Butler Memorial Hospital.
Born Sept. 17, 1943, in Canonsburg, he was the son of Eleanor (Lytle) Grousosky and the late Joseph Grousosky.
He was a retired chief petty officer from the U.S Navy. He also retired in 2004 as a foreman from the Westview Water Co. After retirement, he did consulting work for Bankston Engineering.
He was a member of Holy Sepulcher Roman Catholic Church.
He currently was the commander of the Lauter-Falkner American Legion Post 683 in Saxonburg, an ASA umpire for Saxonburg girls softball and the past president of Saxonburg girls softball. He enjoyed golf leagues and bowling teams and camping with his family.
Surviving are his wife, Ruth (Weinbrenner) Harris, who he married Sept. 2, 1967; his mother of Bethel Park; his father, John Harris of Pittsburgh; his children, Dawn (Charles Miller) Chaney of Spring Grove, Roxanne (Phil) Cypher of Butler and Eric Harris of Crofton, Md.; his grandchildren, Laryssa (Cal Dittman) Harris of Butler, Courtnay Chaney of Spring Grove, Alexys Harris of Butler, Therysa Wise of Butler, Billy Wise of Butler and Philip Cypher of Butler; his great-grandchild, Cammrin Dittman of Butler; his siblings, John (Darlene) Harris of Pittsburgh, James Harris of Prospect and Mary Ellen Bailey of Missouri; several nieces and nephews; several great-nieces and great-nephews; and AFS students Vivian Hernandez and Diane Green-Leitch and families.
Preceding him in death were his stepfather; his maternal grandmother, Della Lytle; and his paternal grandmother Lucinda Mae Harris.
<B>HARRIS</B> — Friends of Thomas Benner Harris, who died Tuesday, April 6, 2010, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today and Friday at <B>Fox Funeral Home</B>, 410 W. Main St., Saxonburg. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at Holy Sepulcher Roman Catholic Church with the Rev. Al Semler officiating.
