Charles Heist

Charles P. Heist Jr., 91, of Butler passed away at 6 p.m. Monday at the VNA Inpatient Hospice.

He was born April 22, 1921, in Center Township to the late Charles P. Heist Sr. and Christina (Spithaler) Heist.

Mr. Heist retired in 2008 as car salesman for Butler County Ford. Charles and his brother, Clifford Heist, also owned and operated A&W Root Beer on New Castle Road in Butler. Mr. Heist was also a former notary.

He was a member of the St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church. He was a life member of the VFW Post 249 and the American Legion Post 117. Mr. Heist was a member of the U.C.T. and the Antique Auto Club of America. He enjoyed classic and antique cars and also enjoyed traveling.

Mr. Heist was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corp, serving in World War II.

Mr. Heist is survived by his wife, Mary L. (Varljen) Heist, who he married on May 25, 1946; three sons, Ronald C. Heist of Butler, Timothy A. Heist and his wife, Sherrie, of Hollidaysburg, Pa., and James B. Heist and his wife, Karen, of Ellicott City, Md.; three daughters, Cathy L. Heist of Santa Rosa, Calif., Debra J. Heist of Butler and Christine M. Holt and her husband, John, of Chicora; five grandchildren, Matthew Heist, Michael Heist, Christopher Heist, Autumn Holt and Clayton Holt; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Earl, Wayne and Clifford Heist.

HEIST — Friends of Charles P. Heist Jr., who passed away Monday, Feb. 25, 2013, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St., Butler.A blessing service will take place at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. Kevin Fazio and Pastor David Maitland officiating.Officers and members of the American Legion Post 778 of Lyndora and VFW Post 249 will conduct military services following the blessing service. Burial will take place in the Greenlawn Burial Estates.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society of Greater Pittsburgh, 320 Bilmar Drive, Pittsburgh, PA 15205.Online condolences can be given at www.thompson-miller.com.
