Raymond L. Double

Raymond L. Double, 83, of Chicora died at 1:10 p.m. Tuesday at Sunnyview Home after a short illness.

Born in Donegal Township, Sept. 7, 1922, he was the son of Thomas L. and Mary M. Graham Double.

He had worked at Pullman Standard in Butler until the plant closed. He also was the custodian at Mater Dolorosa Roman Catholic Church in Chicora for 31 years. In his younger years, he worked at the Lewis' Dairy in Kaylor for 13 years. He also had worked at the Steighner Funeral Home in Chicora for a few years.

Mr. Double had served the mayor of Chicora for 10 years.

He was a member of the Mater Dolorosa Roman Catholic Church of Chicora and the Altar Rosary Society of the church. He was a life member of the Chicora Volunteer Fire Department.

He was an avid farmer and hunter.

Surviving are three sons, Thomas Double of Dunn, N.C., and Dennis and Jeffery Double, both of Chicora; six grandchildren; and a great-grandson. A sister, Dorothy Krouse of Fenelton; and several nieces and nephews also survive.

His wife, Josephine Double, whom he married April 12, 1947, at St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, Bradys Bend, died Dec. 15, 1999. He also was preceded in death by a son, a brother and two sisters.

<B>DOUBLE </B>— Friends of Raymond L. Double, who died Tuesday, July 4, 2006, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the <B>STEIGHNER FUNERAL HOME</B>, 111 East Slippery Rock St., Chicora. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at Mater Dolorosa Roman Catholic Church, 409 N. Main St., Chicora, with the Rev. David DeWitt officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Bradys Bend.
