Goldie Mae Mathews Sloan, 86, of Evans City died Monday morning at Butler Memorial Hospital after an illness.

Born Feb. 1, 1921, in Connoquenessing Township, she was the daughter of Isaiah N. and Lulu Blanche Bolton Mathews.

She was a lifetime member of the Mt. Nebo Presbyterian Church, where she taught Sunday school and was the church treasurer for years. At the church, she also belonged to the Willing Workers, the Missionary Society and always helped make the apple-butter for the church fundraiser. She and her husband also were former custodians for the church.

Mrs. Sloan was a member of the Pleasant Valley Extension Club. She enjoyed gardening, canning, quilting, baking, playing with her grandchildren, fishing and camping.

She is survived by her husband, Ralph Edward Sloan, whom she married May 28, 1942; a daughter and son-in-law, Robert and Shirley Bieber of Evans City; a son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Cheryl Sloan of Butler; six grandchildren, Randy Bieber of Butler, Ella Heathcote of Connoquenessing, Tim Bieber of Evans City, Nancy Reno of Valencia, Rodney Sloan of Butler and Tara Seaton of East Butler; and 10 great-grandchildren, Gordon and Dezmen Bieber, Christopher, Michael and Nicholas Martinkovich, Autumn, Cheyenne, Rory and Roland Sloan and Alexia Seaton.

She also is survived by a brother, Harold "Jake" Mathews of Evans City.

She was preceded in death by four great-grandchildren, five sisters and five brothers.

<B>SLOAN</B> — Friends of Goldie Mae Mathews Sloan, who died Monday, June 11, 2007, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the <B>Edward L. Raisley Funeral Home</B>, 387 Main St., Prospect. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Mt. Nebo Presbyterian Church, where services will follow at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev.
