Above-average temperatures moving into county

The sun will make a welcome return Wednesday, bringing higher temperatures just a few days after a record low was set.

Wednesday will start out cloudy, but the sun will emerge and bring a high temperature of 41 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

Usual temperatures in the county for this time of the year are a high of 38 degrees and a low of 24 degrees.

An arctic front that moved into the area last week led to a record low of 12 degrees on Christmas Eve. The previous record of 13 degrees was set in 1983.

“The arctic cold front has moved through the area, and we’re starting to build higher pressure in the region,” said NWS meteorologist Jared Rackley.

The temperature on Wednesday night will dip to around 28 degrees before rising into the 40s on Thursday. There is a chance of rain on Friday and Saturday, and temperatures are predicted to reach 49 degrees.

Ice that formed in areas on rivers during the cold front will melt and could cause some localized flooding as the weather warms up, Rackley said.
