Salvation Army accepting donations to make for kettle shortfall

The Salvation Army is hoping that people will continue to donate money to benefit its many assistance programs after harsh winter weather prevented the organization from reaching the fundraising goal of its annual Red Kettle campaign, Major Darlene Means of the Butler Salvation Army said.
Freezing rain combined with snow and below freezing temperatures prevented Salvation Army volunteers from manning kettles and ringing bells at retail stores on Dec. 23 and Christmas Eve, which are typically produce a lot of donations.
“Because of the weather, we couldn’t go out Friday and Saturday, and those are usually two of our biggest days for kettles,” Means said.
