Martha Franklin
Martha Elizabeth Franklin, born Martha Elizabeth Matern on Dec. 15, 1933, was the daughter of the late William and Pearl Matern of Schenectady, N.Y. She passed away on Friday, Dec. 23, 2022, just past her 89th birthday, at Bridgeville Rehabilitation and Care Center in Bridgeville, after an extended battle with Alzheimer’s.
She was the loving wife of Allan L. Franklin.
She is survived by her two daughters, Elizabeth Mayfield (James L. Mayfield) and Nancy Bourke (Daniel P. Bourke); and son, William B. Franklin.
She also is survived by nine grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
A graduate of Mount Pleasant High School, Martha was always an active volunteer at the churches she attended, Trinity Lutheran Church in Schenectady, N.Y., Church of the Covenant in Washington, Pa., and St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Sarver.
She also loved knitting, crocheting, doing puzzles, playing games and traveling; she had an insatiable passion for collecting pigs.
She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
