Mars man accused of breaking into a hotel room
A Mars man was accused of breaking into a hotel room and tussling with a man inside, according to charges filed Saturday, Dec. 31.
Lamont A. Franklin, 43, was charged with felonies burglary and criminal trespass, misdemeanor simple assault and summary harassment following an incident Dec. 27.
Police said they were dispatched to the Candlewood Suites hotel in Cranberry Township around 10:30 p.m. for a burglary. Upon arrival, officers made contact with the alleged victim, who said he rented two rooms in the hotel for his family.
The man said he left his room to speak to his wife in the adjacent room at 10 p.m. He returned five minutes later to find a man wearing a dark ski jacket and gray sweat pants inside.
The two began to fight, which resulted in the hotel customer being punched in the face. Police said the suspect fled down a flight of stairs nearby.
According to the affidavit, the alleged victim’s son was sleeping the room at the time of the burglary.
Police said they were able to identify Franklin as the suspect via surveillance footage.
A preliminary hearing for Franklin has not yet been scheduled.
