Kelly sworn in for seventh term

Mike Kelly, R-16th, speaks with the staff of the Butler Eagle Tuesday, Oct. 18 at the Butler Eagle's office in Butler. Kelly is the incumbent candidate for the Pennsylvania's 16th Congressional District in the November election.

U.S. Rep. Mike Kelly, R-16th, who represents Butler County, was sworn in for his seventh term in the U.S. House of Representatives during a ceremony Saturday at the U.S. Capitol. The 118th Congress officially began on Tuesday.

Kelly, 74, was first elected to Congress in 2010. He served as the Ranking Member of the Ways & Means Committee's Subcommittee on Select Revenue Measures, which oversees tax policy. Before serving in Congress, Rep. Kelly owned and operated several automobile dealerships. Kelly is a father of four and a grandfather of 10, according to a Saturday news release from his office.

In November, Kelly won reelection, earning 59.4% of the vote.

"I'm honored to return to Washington and get back to work for the people of the 16th Congressional District," Kelly said. "With a Republican majority in the U.S. House of Representatives, we can now begin the real work of securing the border, lowering inflation and making America energy independent once again."
