West Wayne water main breaks fixed

Pennsylvania American Water crews make emergency repairs due to a main line break on West Wayne Street in Butler on Monday, January 9, 2022. Cary Shaffer/Butler Eagle

Two breaks in as many days in a main water line on West Wayne Street were fixed and water service restored before expected.

Crews on Sunday made emergency repairs to the 60-year-old, 8-inch water line and restored water to the 22 affected customers in the Island neighborhood of the city, according to Gary Lobaugh, Pennsylvania American spokesman.

However, a second break in the line sent crews back to West Wayne Street on Sunday, and work was ongoing on Monday morning.

By 12:30 p.m. water service was restored to the 22 customers, including the Butler Eagle offices and production center.
