Checkan

Conner James Checkan, 19 years old, born Oct. 29, 2003, in Butler, died unexpectedly on Jan. 8, 2023.

He is survived by his loving mother, Vanessa Clark; his father, Jeff Checkan and stepmom, Carey Checkan; his brothers, Nicholas Checkan, Tyler Checkan and Keith Walsh Jr.; his nephews, Kyler Checkan, Keith Walsh III and Tanner Walsh; his nieces, Kenslee, Kalayah and Lilli Checkan; and his beloved dog, Layla.

He also is survived by his Uncle Don and Aunt Bonnie Checkan, Uncle Rick and Aunt Bonnie Checkan and Aunt Darlene Checkan; and his cousins, Shane and (Amy), Corey and (Staci), Colin and (Meghan), Preston, Kaitlyn, Nadia, Wyatt and Marissa; and many loving relatives, Patricia Scott, Al and Deb Carothers, Ron and Joyce Powers, Chip and Leslie, Randy and Rhonda, Kevin and Tammy, Ed and Tina, Micah and Heidi, Greg and Brittany, Courtney, Shelby, Kylee, Jacob, Hannah, Ryan, Trent, Skyleigh, Rylee, Grayson, Maddox, Zoe, Drake, River and Brielle.

Conner worked on the river as a deckhand for Industry Terminal & Salvage Company, where he had a desire to become a towboat captain. He also loved to work on and build up sports cars, and would spend many nights hanging with his friends, where they enjoyed cruising around with their prized cars in the Butler area. He was also an avid carpenter, where he excelled in creative designing and building multiple furniture items. His mark of woodsmanship products that he built for many family members will allow his memory to last a lifetime.

Conner absolutely loved dogs, especially his Layla, who was incredibly smart and well-trained by Conner. Layla loved her daddy and will miss him.

He was preceded in death by Grandfather Donald and Grandma Barb Checkan, Grandma Patricia Clark, Uncle Joe Checkan, Uncle Alan Clark, Great-Grandpap Charles Checkan, Great-Grandma Hazel Moyer, and Great-Grandpap Ardell and Great-Grandma Betty Selle.

CHECKAN — Friends of Conner James Checkan, who died Sunday, Jan. 8, 2023, will be received from 2 to 7 p.m. Friday at BOYLAN FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTER, 856 Evans City Road, Renfrew.

A memorial and remembrance service will follow from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
