Butler woman charged in stabbing Wednesday

Butler Township police have charged an 18-year-old Butler woman in the stabbing of a township resident early Wednesday morning.

Keira A. Sporny was charged with felony aggravated assault, misdemeanor simple assault and summary harassment hours after the 4:39 a.m. incident.

Sporny was placed in Butler County Prison in lieu of $50,000 bail.

Police responded to a disturbance on Patterson Avenue in the early morning, where residents called reporting someone banging on multiple doors of the house.

Emergency dispatchers told officers en route that a woman had been stabbed and a man was being chased by someone with a knife.

Upon arrival, police observed a woman running from the back of the house and screaming that she’d been stabbed. She told officers that the individual was still inside.

Sporny was identified as the suspect and placed in custody. A male witness told police Sporny was his on-again-off-again girlfriend.

The male witness told officers he and a woman were sitting on the couch in the living room watching a movie when Sporny began banging on the front door.

Another resident said that Sporny went to the basement door and banged on it. Sporny came through that door and went upstairs to the living room, he told police.

According to documents, Sporny obtained a knife with an eight-inch blade from the kitchen before heading upstairs.

The male witness on the couch said Sporny came around the corner and screamed “What’s up, (expletive)!” and began chasing the man and woman.

Police said Sporny cut the woman in the right side of her torso.

The homeowner then exited her bedroom during the commotion, and Sporny handed the knife to her, police said.

Police said Sporny’s hands were photographed showing blood on them.

The woman who was injured had a stab wound that measured about an inch and a half and required about eight to 10 stitches, documents said.

Sporny’s preliminary hearing before District Judge Kevin O’Donnell is scheduled Jan. 19.
