A new taproom to be developed on the site of a former asphalt company has been approved by Penn Township supervisors.

Helltown Brewing of Pittsburgh will open a taproom in the largest of the handful of buildings on property at the corner of Airport Road and Fairway Lane.

Some residents of the neighborhood attended a meeting of the township zoning hearing board in July, where Helltown representatives sought a continuation of the variance received in the residential zone by the former asphalt company.

The residents feared noise, traffic, accidents, lowered property values and driving under the influence, among other scenarios, as a result of the taproom.
