Alan McGarvey
Alan McGarvey, 81, of New Smyrna Beach, Fla., passed away peacefully on Jan. 15, 2023, with “Islands in the Stream” playing on his mind. Dementia robbed him of the things he still wanted to accomplish.
He was born on May 12, 1941.
In the late 1960s, he worked for Armco Steel as a mill worker. He built a post office in Eau Claire. In the 1970s, he worked as an assistant superintendent of highways for PennDOT. He retired and moved to Brevard County, Fla. in March of 1983. He became a self-building contractor, who built and remodeled over 25 homes.
Alan was an honorary member of the Masons, fulfilling 60 years of entitlement with the Parker Allegheny Canby 521 F&AM.
He leaves behind his beloved companion of 40 years, Kathy Blay Merriman; a daughter, Kristen McGarvey; a son, Matthew McGarvey; a brother, Dennis McGarvey; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and three nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Eleanor McGarvey; and a loving daughter, Kimberly McGarvey Nobilt.
No words can express the loss of a great, versatile man, who has crossed over to everlasting life. We will see each other again and I will have that “Last Dance” with you in our eternal life.
