First responders tend to crashes across Butler County during morning snow

Saxonburg Police and emergency crews responded to a two vehicle accident involving a passenger vehicle and box truck on Route 422 near Heist Road in Summit Township on Wednesday. An hour or so of wintry mix and freezing rain just before lunchtime likely will only add to the headaches of 911 dispatchers, police, ambulance services and firefighters as the winter storm passes through Butler County.

According to radar maps, the icy conditions are expected to end between noon and 1 p.m., when precipitation should switch over to rain as temperatures rise.

Two crashes in the Adams township area included a vehicle into a house on Oswego Drive in Treesdale and a three-car accident at Adams Pointe Boulevard and Clubside Drive.

A vehicle sheered off a utility pole at 631 Pittsburgh Road, and a box truck was reported on its side at Route 422 East and Heist Road.

Those four crashes occurred between 9:40 and 10:07 a.m.

Additionally, dispatchers at the 911 center sent police to control traffic at another location where two tractor trailers became stuck on snowy roads at 10:35 a.m. A dispatcher could not immediately confirm the location.

The sharp tap of freezing rain could be heard striking windshields at about that time, as 911 dispatchers reported crash reports ramping up.

Around 10:45 a.m., first responders also were responding to a report that a tractor-trailer had jack-knifed on I-79 North near the 98.4 mile marker.

Within another ten minutes, another crash with possible minor injuries was reported on Route 8 near Cleveland-Cliffs, and truck had reported hit a tree near 313 Dinnerbell Road in Penn Township.
