Donald Philip Hoffmann, 78, of Harmony, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 29, 2023, while under the care of UPMC Passavant Hospital in McCandless Township.

Born on Nov. 26, 1944, in Pittsburgh, he was the son of the late Fred J. and Margaret C. Hoffmann.

Don proudly served in the Vietnam War in the U.S. Army, where he served in the Military Police Reserve Unit 336. He was in the 1st Army-443 Quartermaster and 82nd Training Airborne Divisions.

He was employed as a drug analyst for the NFL.

Don was a member of St. Gregory Roman Catholic Church-Divine Grace Parish.

He belonged to the Conway Sportsmen’s Club and the Zelienople American Legion, and he was a former member of the Cranberry Elks. He also served as a former dockmaster at the Lake Arthur Marina at Moraine State Park.

Don enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, cooking and baking. He will be dearly missed and remembered by everyone who loved him.

He is survived by his wife, Jane Carroll Hoffmann, whom he married on Feb. 14, 2003; his children, Donald F. (Kelly) Hoffmann of Connoquenessing, Barbara (James) Smith of Arkansas, Daniel Smirga of Trafford, and Jaclyn Smirga of Harmony; his grandchildren, Emily Hoffmann, Alyssa Dreucci, Daniel Cauley and Danielle Smith; his sister, Nancy (James) Lyle of McMurray; his former wife, Mary Ann Hoffmann of Zelienople; and many, many cousins, nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by his son, Eric Hoffmann, who passed away in 2003.

HOFFMANN — Friends of Donald Philip Hoffmann, who died Sunday, Jan. 29, 2023, will be received from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at BOYLAN FUNERAL HOME, 324 E. Grandview Ave., Zelienople.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Thursday at St. Gregory Roman Catholic Church-Divine Grace Parish, 2 W. Beaver St., Zelienople.

Military honors will be held at the church following the Mass.

He will be laid to rest privately at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery in Moon Township.

Memorial donations may be made in his honor to the Conway Sportsmen’s Club.
