Ruth E. Gibson
Ruth Eleanor Gibson, 85, of Parsonville Road, North Washington, went home to be with her Lord at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Chicora Medical Center after an illness.
Born Nov. 23, 1921, in Parsonville, Washington Township, she was the daughter of Philip and Flora Bell Deal.
She was a 1939 graduate of Concord Township High School in Hooker and worked at Kuhn's Store in Hooker from 1940 until 1945. She then attended Grace Martin's Secretarial School in Pittsburgh, and following graduation, she worked at the headquarters of Presbyterian Church of North America in the Publication Building. She also was the tax collector in Washington Township for more than 35 years.
Mrs. Gibson was a member of North Washington Presbyterian Church, where she was the pianist for years.
She donated time each year to the North Washington Fire Department Rodeo to work in the food concession. She enjoyed all of God's creations, feeding birds, horseback riding and outdoor flowers.
Surviving are three sons and their wives, Thomas R. and Laura Gibson and Daniel G. and Leanna Gibson, all of Parker, and David A. and Paula Gibson of Mars; a daughter and her husband, Lucille M. and Richard Hillis of Petrolia; eight grandchildren, Julia, Ellisa and Joshua Gibson, all of Parker, Megan and Rebecca Gibson, both of Mars, Jana R. Pulliam of Greensboro, Md., Jessica DeGel of New Bethlehem and Adam DeGel of Greenville, N.C.; three great-grandchildren, Jessica, Jennifer and Justin; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Her husband, Raymond P. Gibson, whom she married at her parents' home in Parsonville Oct. 5, 1948, died Dec. 31, 2002. She also was preceded in death by two brothers, Lawrence Deal and Keith Deal, and a sister, Marie Deal.
<B>GIBSON</B> — Friends of Ruth Eleanor Gibson, who died Tuesday, April 24, 2007, will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at <B>Richard D. Hillis Funeral Home</B>, 102 Argyle St., Petrolia. Visitation also will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at North Washington Presbyterian Church, where the funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Robert Mathias, pastor, and the Rev. Richard Rowe, a Presbyterian minister, officiating.
