Franklin Township supervisors plan a public hearing at 6 p.m. Feb. 20 on the proposed construction of a GetGo gas station and convenience store at the intersection of Route 422 and Eagle Mill Road.

Supervisors will accept public comments on GetGo Portfolio III, LLC/Giant Eagle's application for three conditional use requests to build a gas station, convenience store and a drive-thru on 2.6 acres of property at 661 and 663 Route 422, which are located in a C-1 general commercial zoning district.

Residents living near the site have concerns about the project, said Nathan Wulff, Franklin Township supervisor.

“There is opposition and we’re taking all concerns seriously,” Wulff said. “The reason for the hearing to hear what everyone has to say.”

Supervisors have up to 45 days after the day of the hearing to make their decision.

The properties are owned by Kelly Schnell and Russell and Donna Cawthorne, respectively. The project would include demolition of structures on the properties.

The township planning commission voted at its Jan. 10 meeting to recommend approval of the conditional use applications, the land development plan and a property line consolidation plan.

The county planning commission reviewed the project site plan at its Jan. 18 meeting and issued two recommendations.

Those recommendations are to design the business's entrance and exit on Route 422 for vehicles to turn right to enter and to turn right to exit, and to add a left hand turning lane with a left hand turning arrow traffic signal at the Eagle Mill Road-Route 422 intersection.
