Penn Township supervisors talk Harcrest Park
At their Wednesday meeting, the Penn Township supervisors:
* Heard Supervisor Doug Roth present the results of a Feb. 8 Harcrest Park Committee meeting that revealed five options for features to be added at the 17.5-acre parcel adjacent to the park, which the township purchased last spring. Engineering firm Herbert, Rowland & Grubic created the drawings after attending the meeting. An education center with an outdoor amphitheater, pickleball court and quarter-mile walking trail were among the many options for the parcel. Another park meeting, which is open to township residents, will be held March 9 at the township building on East Airport Road.
* Approved Herbert, Rowland & Grubic to design a project to mitigate stormwater flooding of Thorn Creek at the intersection of Dodds and Rockdale roads. More than $700,000 in country grant funds will be used for the project, but the township is required to pay 10% of the costs.
* Approved Supervisor Wilbert Mowry Jr. to serve on the Southwest Pennsylvania Commission’s public participation panel.
* Approved two motions aimed at updating the township’s comprehensive plan, which was last updated several years ago. The motions included one to apply for grant funding for the update.
