Chester B. Barr

Chester B. Barr, 82, of Harrisville died at 9:20 a.m. Wednesday at his daughter's home in Harrisville.

Born in Wadestown, W.Va., Oct. 26, 1923, he was the son of Harley O. and Estella M. Britton Barr.

He was a graduate of Clay-Battle High School in Blacksville, W.Va., and he retired in 1980 as the owner of B&D Coal Co., Harrisville.

Mr. Barr was a member of the Bethel Presbyterian Church, Slippery Rock. He also belonged to the F&AM Lodge of Clarion and the New Castle Consistory.

He spent his summers in Pennsylvania and his winters in Florida, and he was a boater and fisherman.

Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. J. Oscar (Ellen M.) Kammerdiener of Parker, Janet L. Goodin of Butler, Mrs. Jerry A. (Alice G.) McMurdy of Harrisville and Loretta M. Ridgway of New Castle; a son, James B. Barr of Grove City; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are two brothers, Frank C. Barr of Morgantown and Jack W. Barr of Imperial; and his companion, Dolores Jett of Englewood, Fla.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Maude Barr, who died Aug. 28, 1978; and his second wife, Patricia J. Shingledecker Barr, whom he married Dec. 24, 1981, and who died April 5, 1999. Two sisters and three brothers also preceded him in death.

BARR — Friends of Chester B. Barr, who died Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2005, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the JAMISON FUNERAL HOME, 117 N. Main St., Harrisville. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Bethel Presbyterian Church, 877 Franklin Road, Slippery Rock. The Rev. Mark Frailey, church pastor, the Rev. Gary Warinner, pastor of Bell Memorial Church of Boyers, and the Rev. Richard Rowe, pastor of Fairview United Presbyterian Church, will officiate. Burial will be at Prairie Cemetery, Harrisville.
