BUTLER TWP — Capital Ground Construction has broken ground on a Taco Bell restaurant in the Greater Butler Mart.

Butler Township commissioners approved the construction project at a May 2022 meeting, where they also approved the demolition of the McDonald’s restaurant in the plaza and the construction of a new one.

Township zoning officer Jesse Hines said the physical proximity of the buildings will affect one another and the Greater Butler Mart as a whole, so both projects are “contingent on each other.” That’s why they were approved at the same meeting.

According to the engineer of Taco Bell’s project, Dave Neill, of the EADS Group, the restaurant is slated to be about 2,500 square feet and have 50 seats and a drive-through window. He said traffic would enter the Taco Bell mainly by Litman Road.

Neill said at the May meeting that construction time for the Taco Bell is estimated to be about 120 days.

Michael Takacs, associate with the civil engineering company Bohler, also said at that meeting that the McDonald’s would be moved northeast of its current location, and will be about 400 square feet larger than the one currently in Greater Butler Mart.

The downtime between the closing of the current location and the completion of the new one is estimated to be between 110 and 120 days, according to Takacs.
