Moniteau School District receives settlement in JUUL lawsuit
CHERRY TWP — The Moniteau School District board of education announced at its Monday night meeting that the district will receive a “gross amount” of a little more than $21,000 from a settlement in a class-action lawsuit against JUUL Labs, which involved most Butler County school districts.
All schools involved in the lawsuit received differing prorated amounts of the settlement, and administration has only just begun talks of where to direct the money as it comes in.
District superintendent Aubrie Schnelle said one idea was to look into different guest speakers on the subject of vaping to educate students on its dangers.
“Another idea we looked into previously was the installation of vape detectors in the restrooms, as that’s usually where everything happens,” Schnelle added.
She said that while vaping within the district is an issue, it’s not any more frequent in Moniteau than any other district.
