John W. Norling Sr.

John Norling

John W. Norling Sr., 82, of Butler died Sunday in the emergency room of Butler Memorial Hospital.

Born on Nov. 4, 1930, in New Kensington, he was a son of the late Gustaf William Norling Sr. and Ada E. (Bates) Norling Sherman.

He worked as a welder for the Pullman Standard Car Co. in Butler for more than 29 years until February of 1990. He was a Center Township supervisor for two years.

John was a member of the St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church, was active in Katie's Kitchen at St. Mark's, was an active firearms collector and enjoyed motorcycles.

Surviving are his wife, Patricia Kay (Hancheck) Norling, who he married in Oakland, Md., on Oct. 10, 1966; his son, John W. (Melissa) Norling Jr. of North Hills; his daughter, Katherine (Thomas) Mosley of Butler; two grandchildren, Jonathan Mosley and Ashley Norling; his sister, Dorothy “Dottie” (John) Slomers of Butler; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his three brothers and two sisters.

NORLING — The friends of John W. Norling Sr., who died Sunday, Sept. 15, 2013, will be received at the Geibel Funeral Home, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler, from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday. Funeral services will follow at noon at the funeral home. His pastor, the Rev. Dr. Alden Towberman, will officiate.
