Union reaches D-9 1A finale
Union advanced to the District 9 Class 1A boys basketball championship game with a 51-48 upset win over DuBois Central Catholic Wednesday night at St. Marys High School.
With the Golden Knights leading by a point, Trey Fleming stole the inbound pass and drove for a layup with three seconds remaining. DuBois CC could only get off a shot from well beyond half-court as time expired.
“This is a huge win for these kids,” Union coach Eric Mortimer said. “Nobody thought we could get this done. But these kids believed they could get it done.”
Union trailed by 10 points early in the fourth quarter before rallying for the win. Payton Johnston led the Golden Knights with 20 points
