Red Barn wraps year in '1940s Radio Hour'
FRANKLIN TWP, Beaver County — The Red Barn Players will present its final show of the season, "1940s Radio Hour," for nine performances starting Friday.
The show is based on an idea by Walton Jones and Carol Less with music from various composers.
It's a snowy December evening in 1942 and the colorful cast and crew of the Mutual Manhattan Variety Cavalcade are trying to broadcast their weekly radio show. The world is at war and pop music means "Strike Up the Band" and "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy" The harassed producer copes with a drunken lead singer, a delivery boy who wants a chance in front of the mike and a second banana who dreams of singing the big ballad. Despite a flurry of mishaps, the show does go on, in an evening of music, nostalgia and Christmas cheer for the whole family.
The cast includes Michael Kiliany, Hans Krauss, Gary Patterson, Dave Carey, Larry Stevens, Cindy West, Cathy Panza, Abbie Hoffman, Bruce Smith, Tammy Erkman, Cynthia Harding, Cyndi Weichey, SueAnn Aiken, Patty Stevens, Pete Kucan, Adam Diamond and Harley Allen.
Performances will start at 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and Sept. 22 to 25 and 29 to 30 and Oct 1 to 2 at the Red Barn Theatre on Ellwood-Zelienople Road.
